FACTS OF INTEREST:

• Most monkeys live in the tropical and subtropical regions. Excellent climbers, they spend their time in the tops of trees.


• New World monkeys have long prehensile, or grasping, tails. Old World monkeys have shorter tails, or no tail at all.


• Monkeys are threatened all over the world by destruction of their forest habitat. At present, one fifth of existing monkey species are considered endangered.


• Monkeys do not usually make good pets (though monkey PUPPETS do!!). They need their own kind to be happy, and in captivity often become aggressive as they grow up.
